February is feline dental awareness month. To help you protect the oral health of your cat, we are offering $30 off on feline dental cleanings and evaluation packages when you book you dental appointment between February 1st and March 1st.

Importance of Dental Care for Cats

The American Veterinary Dental Society has reported findings that up to 70 percent of all cats have some form of dental disease by the time they are three years old. Eighty-five percent of all adult cats have symptoms of periodontal disease.

Unfortunately for owners, most cats do not show their pain. Instead, they suffer in silence. For this reason, cat owners must be aware of the signs and symptoms of oral health problems in their cats, including excessive drooling, lack of appetite, excessive sleeping or lethargy and bad breath.

By having your cat’s teeth cleaned on a regular basis with our veterinarian, you will be helping to prevent oral health problems and infections in your cat.

Dental Care with our Feline Veterinarian

When you bring your cat into our cat veterinary hospital, you can expect friendly, safe and knowledgeable care. During your cat’s appointment, our veterinarian will administer a dose of anesthesia prior to starting your cat’s examination.

The examination will start off with a thorough inspection of your cat’s teeth and gums. Our veterinarian will look for signs of tooth decay, infections, gingivitis and periodontal disease. Then, our cat vet will use an ultrasonic scaler to remove all the plaque and tartar from your cat’s teeth and below the gum line. Finally, we will polish your cat’s teeth. This makes the surface of the teeth smooth, which helps deter plaque build-up.

If we find any signs of gingivitis or periodontal disease, our veterinarian will explain the conditions and recommend a course of treatment to stop the progress. In addition, we can recommend certain foods and dental toys to help keep your cat’s teeth clean between dental visits.
